There are a variety of fibres used to manufacture carpets, each with their own benefits. Wool carpets have excellent appearance retention and vacuum exceptionally well. Wool is very much the traditional fibre. Very often wool is blended with a synthetic fibre such as nylon or polypropylene, the most common mix is 80% wool, 20% synthetic. Combining fibres means you get a mix of the positive properties from various fibres and changing the quantities of the blends means that there is a carpet fibre which is suitable throughout your home. Polypropylene based carpet combine stain resistant qualities with excellent durability; it also offers good value for money. When selecting a carpet you will need to decide which surface finish you will require, twist, saxony, velvet or looped finish.
Each carpet range contains multiple colours and, with some manufacturers offering a special dye service, a colour to suit any interior decor can be found or created. Carpets are traditionally produced 4 metres wide, but these days more and more are produced with an 'extra wide' 5 metre width. Multiple widths and cut-to-size options are available from selected manufacturers.
